MAGA Base Disapproval of Trump Administration Recent Actions
Ever since Donald Trump came down that escalator in 2015, he has formed one of the most close-knit coalitions in American history. For nearly a decade, the MAGA movement has backed him through numerous controversies, steadfast in support of his agenda. But this past week marked a rare moment of visible dissent. After the July 4 signing of the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” initial Republican enthusiasm gave way to frustration. It started with Trump’s speech in the Iowa Fairgrounds where he kicked off the celebratory year of America’s 250th birthday. However, things took a turn when he said, “If a farmer is willing to vouch for these people in some way, Kristi [Noem], I think we're going to have to just say that's going to be good, right? We don't want to do it where we take all of the workers off the farms,” (Reuters 2025). In this remark, Trump proposes amnesty for undocumented workers who work for low wages and allow farmers to profit off of their labor. The comment experienced tremendous pushback from hard-core conservatives since they felt as if Trump was swaying away from what got him elected. Trump has now clarified, however, that there will be no ‘amnesty.’ Simultaneously, growing outrage over the handling of the Epstein case has intensified pressure on Attorney General Pam Bondi, with some Republican voters calling for her removal.
Texas Flash Floods
This past week, the 47th President toured the flood-devastated Kerrville, Texas. This horrific natural disaster has killed over 120 people with many individuals still missing. To add to all the problems, the President is facing backlash for his firing of many federal workers. Particularly those who worked in the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Trump’s visit drew scrutiny over delayed emergency warnings and FEMA’s preparedness for the floods. Despite earlier proposals wanting to dismantle FEMA’s authority, Trump thanked FEMA and Texas officials for their efforts. Many Americans now worry that the campaign’s goal of downsizing the government will hugely affect the public’s need for robust disaster response.
Trump hosts Israel’s PM Netanyahu at White House
On July 7, the President held a private dinner with Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss America’s efforts in negotiating a Gaza ceasefire. The two world leaders discussed a variety of topics from the release of hostages to the shipment of weapons to Ukraine. It was then that the Prime Minister announced that he had nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize to commemorate his pursuit of peace throughout the world. They also conversed about relations with Iran and America’s strikes on Iranian facilities.
